3 Best Ways to Improve Temperature Management for Server Cabinets

3 Best Ways to Improve Temperature Management for Server Cabinets

Oct 6th 2020

If you have a data center in your office, you must be well aware of their importance. Due to the continuous running of the servers, a tremendous amount of heat is generated. That’s when you have to come up and take a part in controlling the heat generated. Controlling the temperature will work in your favor, i.e., the performance of the servers won’t be affected by the overheating of the servers. There are a number of solutions that are available, you just have to use them effectively to control the temperature of the room.

The ideal temperature of any data center must be around 18-27oC. To maintain this temperature, you have to implement some effective solutions, like the following:

  1. Improve Airflow: One of the most effective and commonly used solution to control the temperature of the data center is to maintain a proper airflow system. You must remember that the temperature will vary within the server cabinet. The temperature of the front of the server cabinet will be lower than that of the rear end, as the heat is released from that end. That’s why you need to prevent that by using blanking plates, fan trays, and distancing the hardware to prevent high-density heat generation.
  2. Get rid of windows: Data center doesn’t need to have sunlight. If sunlight enters the room from anywhere, it will only increase the temperature of the room. Rooms with poor insulation can also cause heating of the room due to the sun. So, blocking the entry of the sunlight, especially through the windows, will prevent unnecessary heating up the room, during a hot summer day.
  3. Portable Air Conditioners: Sometimes during the hot summer days, you might have to consider bringing in the portable AC units. This will help in lowering the temperature of the room, for a temporary period. These AC units will need their water tanks emptied regularly and will need hot air funneling.
