When housing your servers for your business requires, there are a couple of different options when it comes to deciding how to store these expensive and highly valuable pieces of machines. Most of these servers are stored in cabinets, which leads you to an important decision: what type of shelves do you need to install within these racks to hold the actual servers.
Two types of shelves that can be installed are fixed and sliding shelves. Both of them have their positive and negative aspects based on the type of business you are doing and what the servers you need for overtime. Check out the positive and negative features of both fixed and sliding shelves, which are listed below so you can decide which one is right for your business.
FIXED SHELVES: As the name implies, fixed shelves are permanently installed in the server cabinet and work just like other shelves in racks work: they are stationary and hold servers of all sizes and weights. These fixed shelves usually cost one hundred dollars per piece, which is relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things when you are setting up a place to store your servers. They are ideal for servers that will be used to be set up, put to use and then left untouched by the IT department and often physically examined, moved or modified. The fixed shelves make them challenging to access regularly.
SLIDING SHELVES: Sliding shelves are also as their name suggests, are shelves that are on rails on wheels, allowing them to slide the server or move out of the cabinet to be looked at, modified, or fixed. This is vital for a company that regularly works with their servers on a weekly or monthly basis, as these sliding shelves will provide easy access to the IT department, or whoever is going to work with the hardware. However, these sliding shelves are a bit expensive, usually costs about one hundred thirty dollars, as opposed to the fixed shelves, which requires one hundred dollars. Depending on the number of servers and shelves you need to install, this difference in cost could be considerable.
